Infants: P1-P2One of the highlights of our Infant curriculum is our outdoor learning programme 'Welly Wednesday.' Each week, pupils cover topics such as the RSPB annual big bird watch, planting, growing and harvesting vegetables or bulbs/seeds, and learning about the weather. We also have literacy weeks where we focus on a certain book and do outdoor activities relating to it. Pupils enjoy doing traffic surveys and making charts with their data and love to explore our local area on nature walks.
Our Infants enjoy taking part in our 'Reading School' activities. We have a class reading ladder where 5 books are selected by class members each week and 1 book is read aloud to the class every day. P1 and P2 also have a weekly library session where pupils have time to select and read through class books with their friends. Each month, one P2 who is chosen as the class 'reading leader' attends monthly 'Reading Leader' meetings with pupils from all primary classes. From P1 - P7, Music, Drama and PE are all delivered by subject specialists, allowing for enriching and exciting lessons! Juniors P3-P6Our Juniors experience an extensive and exciting curriculum that focuses on supporting each individual to achieve their potential. We build on the core skills learnt in P1 and P2, focusing on deep learning in numeracy and literacy, and in extending their broad general education in subjects including Science, History, Geography, Modern Studies, French, Drama and Art.
Health and Wellbeing is a continual focus across the curriculum as we support each individual in becoming a confident, successful learner who can contribute effectively to their society as a responsible citizen. Pupils develop friendships across age groups and enjoy opportunities to build on these in cross - stage lessons such as PE and Drama. Our Juniors have created their own 'Reading Corners' in their classrooms, designing and furnishing them as a class project. Pupils thoroughly enjoy reading and reviewing novels and class books, sharing ideas and suggestions with friends. The Junior School Reading Leaders attend termly meetings and work together on continuing to build a culture of reading in Cedars. In Music, French, PE and Drama, subject specialists deliver a stimulating and enriching curriculum. Learning support specialists ensure that every pupil is challenged and supported, and makes progress at their own pace. The Junior School enjoys sending their Class Captains to the pupil council meetings, representing their ideas to the rest of the council and to the Head Teacher. |
