The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a world leading youth achievement award, which incorporates physical activities, volunteering and expeditions. We encourage all Cedars pupils to make the most of the opportunity to undertake this Award, and provide the support they need to achieve the level they are aiming for. Pupils can complete the Bronze and Silver Awards ad school pupils, and many undertake the start of the Gold award in their 5th or 6th year. The final expedition for the Gold Award tends to take place in the summer after a student has finished school.
This quote from the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme explains the impact of undertaking the Award:
Any young person can do their DofE – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.
Through a DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and uni and job applications. Top employers recognise the work-ready skills Award holders bring to their business”.
